The accolades keep coming for Syracuse center Uche Izoje.
On Tuesday, Izoje was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association National Freshman of the Week. She’s the first player in program history to earn the award, following a week in which Izoje posted two double-doubles and scored 39 combined points.
The award also comes a day after Izoje was named Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season, a program record.
Izoje’s been the anchor behind Syracuse’s early-season success, leading the Orange with 13.7 points. 8.8 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game. The 6-foot-3 center has recorded six double-doubles, scoring below 10 points just three times. Among all Division I players, Izoje’s 64.6% field-goal percentage ranks seventh, and her block total ranks sixth.
With ACC play intensifying, Izoje will continue to play an increased role as the Orange aim to return to March Madness.
