Syracuse men’s lacrosse attack Trey Deere has been ruled out for the season due to injuries suffered in a car crash, Inside Lacrosse reported Wednesday. Deere scored 21 goals in 24 appearances for the Orange over the past two seasons.

Deere was slated to potentially be SU’s third attacker alongside Joey Spallina and Finn Thomson this season. Deere started three games in 2025 when Thomson was injured, but he lost his spot during Atlantic Coast Conference play to freshman Payton Anderson. With Deere’s injury, Gary Gait will likely turn to Anderson, unless Michael Leo becomes a full-time attack for the first time since high school.

Despite not starting Syracuse’s final 10 games in 2025, Deere became a crucial part of Syracuse’s man-up offense in the second half of the season. He was key in the Orange’s 13-12 comeback win over Harvard in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, finishing with two goals. He scored once in a quarterfinal win over Princeton but was held scoreless in SU’s Final Four contest versus Maryland.

Deere was the No. 17 overall recruit in the 2023 class according to Inside Lacrosse. Deere made a limited impact as a freshman, appearing in just five games and scoring one goal. His role increased last season, totaling 19 and two assists.

The attacker’s absence is a tough blow to Syracuse’s man-up unit, which was the seventh-best unit in the country last season, scoring on 48.2% of its chances.
