Syracuse University’s chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon is under investigation by Community Standards after alleged new member hazing last fall, a university spokesperson confirmed.

The fraternity’s New York Delta chapter has been under investigation since Jan. 26, according to SU’s Hazing Awareness Hub.

The university spokesperson initially said Monday the alleged hazing occurred in fall 2024, but corrected themselves Wednesday, saying it occurred in fall 2025.

During the investigation, SAE cannot recruit new members or hold social events, the spokesperson wrote. However, it can continue community service and philanthropy events.

There is no definitive timeline for the investigation.

“Investigation duration varies depending on the number of interviews required, scheduling constraints and other case-specific factors,” the spokesperson wrote. “The University is committed to completing investigations thoroughly and efficiently.”

Neither SAE’s SU chapter nor the national organization responded to The Daily Orange’s request for comment.
