Syracuse University’s 41st Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration has been rescheduled and will be available to watch virtually on Feb. 28, Hendricks Chapel announced in a Tuesday campus-wide email.

The event, typically held in person at the JMA Wireless Dome, was scheduled for Jan. 25 but was canceled due to inclement weather. The rescheduled event is free, and ticketholders have been refunded, according to the email. A video of the celebration will be available on Hendricks Chapel’s YouTube channel.

“Syracuse University remains committed to honoring Dr. King’s legacy and enduring message of unity and hope,” the email states.

This year, SU honored the four recipients of the Unsung Hero Award, celebrating those who have given back to the Syracuse community.

Syracuse City Mayor and SU alum Sharon Owens was scheduled to speak at the initial event. While the email states that the virtual event will feature “powerful performances,” it is unclear whether Owens will attend.

Any questions about the scheduling change can be directed to chapel@syr.edu.
