During the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boston, Massachusetts, Syracuse came ever so close to having its first ACC individual champion since 2021. Instead, it walked away with one podium finish and zero champions.

On Saturday, Jamir Brown lined up for the final round of the men’s 60-meter hurdles. He finished first in the qualifying round Friday, with a personal-best of 7.58 seconds. Brown stood alongside Florida State hurdler Andre Korbmacher, the ACC’s reigning 60-meter hurdles champion.

By the end of the race, both hurdlers separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Brown finished with a second straight personal-best of 7.56 seconds, a mark that placed him tied for 10th-best in the country as of Saturday.

Unfortunately for Brown, Korbmacher’s 7.55 was just good enough to edge out the Orange’s top hurdler. SU fell one-hundredth of a second short of its first ACC champion since Amanda Vestri’s title five years ago.

For the women’s 60-meter hurdle, Taleea Buxton and Tia Outlaw qualified for the final round and finished fourth and eighth in the field. Buxton earned All-ACC honors with her effort.

In the distance events for the men, Drew Zundell finished eighth in the mile. Sam Ricchiuti and Louis Small finished ninth and 10th in the 5,000-meter, while 5,000-meter record holder Peter Walsdorf finished 25th.

For the women, Emma Eastman placed 11th in the 5,000-meter Thursday and 21st in the 3,000-meter Saturday. Maddie Heintz and Jayden Harberts placed 15th and 20th in the 5,000-meter, finishing with personal best times.

The Orange suffered from disqualifications throughout the meet, watching women’s 200-meter runner Indie Wallace-Persaud, men’s 60-meter hurdler Tawakal Omar and men’s 400-meter runner Elijah Mallard all get disqualified for various infractions.

Overall, Syracuse’s women’s team placed last at the ACC Championships, while the men’s team finished 16th.
