Syracuse University announced a partnership with the National Women’s Soccer League Tuesday. The deal allows current players, former players within five years of active play and their families to receive online SU degrees, career development opportunities and certificates.
Academic offerings vary across individual Syracuse colleges, including the Falk College of Sport, the Whitman School of Management, the Newhouse School of Public Communications and the College of Professional Studies.
“Our mission at the NWSL has always been to champion our athletes not just as players, but as people with diverse ambitions and bright futures,” Briana Gilmartin, an NWSL League Player Partner, wrote in a Tuesday press release. “This collaboration with Syracuse University provides a critical bridge to success for our current stars, our storied alumni and their families.”
Educational offerings will be available at SU’s New York, Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles campuses, as well as asynchronously and on its main Syracuse campus.
Areas of study include liberal arts, business management, strategic communications, sport analytics and entrepreneurship, among others.
“For athletes and professionals with unpredictable schedules, our online programs offer the perfect balance of flexibility, extensive academic support and real-world applicability — all without compromising the demands of their careers or personal circumstances,” Falk College Dean Jeremy Jordan wrote.
Tuesday’s partnership adds to an extensive list of professional leagues SU has partnered with, including Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer and the National Hockey League.
