Syracuse women’s lacrosse (0-3, 0-2 Atlantic Coast) slid two spots to No. 15 in the latest Inside Lacrosse Poll released Monday.

The dip comes after SU’s 8-6 loss to No. 3 Stanford on Friday, where the Orange hung tough but never led. The two squads were tied entering the fourth quarter before Tewaaraton Award contender Aliya Polisky notched two late points to lift the Cardinal to victory.

Stanford got going with four goals in the first period, but Syracuse’s Molly Guzik tallied two scores to keep the Orange alive. Then, SU shut out the Cardinal in the second frame and received goals from Ashlee Volpe and Bri Peters to level it at halftime. Caroline Trinkaus ignited for two second-half goals for SU, but the Orange were shut out in the fourth quarter to punctuate a tough road loss.

Friday’s defeat stamped Syracuse’s first 0-3 start since 2001. Granted, the Orange have played the three best teams in the country in their first three games — in North Carolina, Maryland and Stanford — hence why they’re still ranked.

Nonetheless, Syracuse continues to slide. After starting the season at No. 11, it fell to No. 14 after a loss to the Terrapins, but jumped to No. 13 after the narrow loss to the No. 1 Tar Heels.

The road still doesn’t get much easier from here, as SU gets another ranked test Tuesday against No. 13 Loyola. The Greyhounds moved up six spots after a win over then-No. 6 Princeton Saturday.
