Absence of Light: Men must put ego aside, uplift one another

Unnecessary competition and inflated egos divide men, our writer claims. Men are most productive when working arm in arm with one another and amplifying each other’s accomplishments, he argues. Katie Crews | Digital Design Director

To the community,

There’s a conversation that doesn’t happen enough, and we’re going to have it directly now.

The male species — our role, our responsibility and our mission — has always been rooted in structure, protection and unification. Not domination, not division, but alignment. Somewhere along the way, we’ve drifted from that assignment.

Right now, we’re living in an environment where division is being manufactured daily. Men against men. Ego against ego. Neighborhood against neighborhood. The truth is, no external force is more powerful than a divided foundation.

So understand this clearly:

When men are divided, communities collapse. When men are unified, communities stabilize, grow and protect their future.

This message is not about exclusion. It’s not about diminishing the powerful work being done by women-led organizations — we salute that work. It’s necessary, impactful and respected.

But this is about accountability on our side.

If we’re honest, many of the fractures we see today stem from a lack of unified male direction.

Commit yourself to amplifying — not diminishing — the men around you who are moving with purpose.
Cliff Ryan Jr., Writer

A lack of codes. A lack of alignment. A lack of men willing to stand shoulder to shoulder without competition poisoning the mission.

Unity among men doesn’t mean sameness. It means discipline. It means respect for roles. It means understanding that another man’s strength is not your threat — it’s your reinforcement.

We need more builders, not critics. More collaborators, not competitors.

More men willing to amplify each other instead of tearing each other down for temporary validation.

Every time we choose division, we delay progress. Every time we choose ego, we weaken the structure. Every time we fail to unify, the next generation inherits confusion instead of clarity.

So here’s the call:

If you’re a man who understands the assignment, if you’re tired of watching potential get wasted through conflict and misalignment, if you believe in building something that outlives you, then embark on this mission.

Not tomorrow. Not eventually. Now. Align with those who build. Distance yourself from those who divide. Commit yourself to amplifying — not diminishing — the men around you who are moving with purpose.

I’m telling you, this isn’t theory.

When the right men unify with the right mindset, amplification is inevitable. Opportunities expand. Influence grows. Protection strengthens. Legacy becomes real.

The question is simple: Are you here to compete or to construct?

The mission is unity. The outcome is amplification. And the time is now.
