Syracuse University’s Department of Public Safety and the Syracuse Police Department are investigating a Friday night off-campus burglary and attempted car theft, according to a Saturday campus-wide email.
The SU student, who was present at the time of the break-in, reported that three unknown men entered the home on the 300 block of Comstock Avenue, taking a full wallet and car keys. The suspects also attempted to steal the student’s car, which was later returned to the student by DPS and SPD, who initially arrived at the scene around 9:40 p.m. DPS said the door was unsecured.
In light of the break-in, DPS reminded students, faculty and staff to always lock their doors and not leave them propped open. DPS also emphasized being aware of valuables, such as keys and wallets, not storing them in plain sight, and cancelling and reporting any lost or stolen cards immediately.
Those with information regarding the break-in should contact DPS or SPD at 315-443-2224 or 315-442-5222, respectively. To report non-emergency information, students can contact DPS anonymously through the Silent Witness tool or Orange Safe app.
