Syracuse men’s basketball fired general manager Alex Kline on Wednesday, a source confirmed to The Daily Orange. The source added Kline wasn’t given a chance to return to the Orange.
CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein was the first to report Kline was no longer with SU. The news comes hours after head coach Adrian Autry was fired after three seasons.
Syracuse hired Kline in June 2024 after he spent eight years working as an NBA scout with the New Orleans Pelicans and New York Knicks. He became the program’s first GM, marking a step forward in the Orange adapting to college basketball’s new landscape.
While Kline was brought in before SU went 14-19 across the 2024-25, he didn’t have any role in building its roster. He spent the season scouting and, alongside former data analyst Eugene Tulyagijja, helped the Orange build an algorithm to help identify talent via the transfer portal and for high school recruits.
Heading into a make-or-break season, Kline helped rebuild Syracuse’s roster by acquiring Naithan George, Nate Kingz, William Kyle III, Tyler Betsey and Bryce Zephir via the portal. A source told The D.O. the Orange spent just under $8 million on their roster this season, which was estimated to be the seventh-to-ninth highest in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
After earning the No. 14 seed for the ACC Tournament, SU’s season ended Tuesday after getting eliminated by SMU in the first round. Across Kline’s two seasons with the program, Syracuse had a 29-36 record.
