Syracuse men’s rowing’s Varsity 8 will begin its 2026 season tied for No. 7 with Northeastern University in the pre-season Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association/Intercollegiate Rowing Association Varsity 8+ Poll released on Wednesday.
The Orange are coming off their best team finish at the IRA Regatta in program history, where they secured sixth place in Ten Eyck Points. This was also the first time in school history that all four of SU’s boats made the Grand Final under the current IRA format. In that final, the men’s V8 finished in sixth for the second consecutive year, following three straight years of finishing in the top five.
The team to beat is No. 1 University of Washington, which is the two-time defending champion of the Ten Eyck Trophy and has won the IRA National Championship for the past two years.
Syracuse will kick off its season at the Princeton Invite on April 11, competing against five teams ranked in the top 10: No. 2 Cal, No. 5 Princeton, No. 6 Brown, No. 9 Stanford and No. 10 Yale.
The rest of the Orange’s season is packed with matchups against ranked teams in every race. They will face No. 12 Navy and No. 13 Cornell at the Goes Trophy on April 18. Then, all in one weekend on April 25 and 26, Syracuse will take on No. 18 Georgetown at the Lake Morey Invite, No. 4 Dartmouth at the Packard Cup and No. 14 Boston University at the Conlan Cup.
Syracuse has not ranked above seventh in the nation for the past two years and begins this season in the same spot as last year.
