Syracuse softball’s home opener against No. 18 Virginia, originally scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m., was postponed due to inclement weather, the team announced Thursday. SU and UVA will instead play a doubleheader Saturday, with games starting at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

After starting the 2025 season blazing hot at 16-3, Syracuse has been extremely inconsistent to begin the 2026 slate. Despite its 11-10 record, SU suffered four double-digit losses and dealt with eight game cancellations to start the year.

The Orange’s struggles against ranked competition were fully evident against then-No. 10 Florida State last weekend. Not only was SU swept across three games, but it was outscored 36-8 and never led. From defensive lapses to subpar pitching, it was a rude awakening to Atlantic Coast Conference play for Syracuse.

Across head coach Shannon Doepking’s eight years at the helm, SU has been abysmal in conference play, notably going just 6-18 and missing the ACC Tournament in 2025. It’ll now have to wait an extra day to flip its conference fortunes in 2026.
