Syracuse’s indoor track and field season ended Friday when 60-meter hurdler Jamir Brown was knocked out in the NCAA Championship Preliminary Race. Brown, who tied for the 14th fastest 60-meter hurdle time in Division I track, was SU’s lone competitor to qualify for the meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
As a sophomore, Brown was one of four underclassmen to make the 16-runner field in his first D-I season after one D-III year at Rowan University. However, he was outclassed by stronger, more experienced competition in the preliminary races, clocking in at 7.78 seconds, last place in the first heat and 14th of 16 in the final standings. The cutoff time to clinch a spot in the finals was a 7.54, .02 seconds faster than Brown’s personal best.
The end of Brown’s indoor season also marks the conclusion of Syracuse’s indoor season. The Orange now prepare for the USF Alumni Invitational — the first meet of the outdoor season — in Tampa, Florida, next week.
