Report claiming person held weapon near Orange Hall is false, DPS confirms

A Thursday evening report claiming a person was holding a weapon near Syracuse University’s Orange Hall was false, the Department of Public Safety confirmed in a campus-wide email.
DPS “immediately and quickly” responded to the alleged incident and found the person did not have a weapon. The incident was “never a threat” to campus, according to the email.
The email emphasized the safety and security of SU students is DPS’ “highest priority” and said they appreciate campus’ cooperation regarding the alleged incident.
