Syracuse guard Sophie Burrows intends to enter the transfer portal, she announced on Instagram Wednesday. Burrows was a two-year starter for the Orange and averaged 11 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as a junior in the 2025-26 season.

Burrows is SU’s second player to enter the transfer portal, following freshman Justus Fitzgerald’s announcement Tuesday, but she’s undoubtedly its most critical departure thus far. Burrows spent three seasons at SU, making 92 appearances and starting 65 games.

The Victoria, Australia, native was primarily utilized as a 3-point specialist in her freshman year, making just four starts. But she closed her first collegiate campaign by scoring a then-career-high 18 points against UConn in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.

As a sophomore, Burrows averaged a career-high 12.2 points per game, the second-highest average on the team. She also shot a career-high 41.1% from the field and 39.6% from distance, though her efforts didn’t save the Orange from a pitiful 12-18 campaign.

Burrows entered her junior year as Syracuse’s premiere returner, joining forces with Uche Izoje, Laila Phelia and Dominique Darius to establish SU’s core. She evolved into a more complete player, averaging a career-high in rebounds (5.8), steals (1.9) and blocks (0.9) per game.

Burrows had four games with over 20 points and shot 30.1% from deep in 2025-26, helping the Orange to a miraculous turnaround campaign. Syracuse went 24-8 and won an NCAA Tournament game before falling to UConn in the second round.

With Izoje’s return, Burrows would’ve likely been a key addition for SU’s returning core. Now, she’ll test the waters of the transfer portal, where she’ll likely be a key addition for a postseason contender.
