Syracuse University announced its 2026-27 Remembrance Scholars in a Monday press release.
The scholarship, now in its 37th year, is awarded to 35 rising seniors, representing a victim, many SU students, in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988.
Each fall semester, SU observes Remembrance Week to honor the victims of the 1988 Pan Am 103 bombing — a terrorist attack that killed 270 victims. The university’s Remembrance Scholars aim to educate the campus community about the bombing and remember the lives of the victims.
The scholars are also tasked with planning Remembrance Week activities, according to SU’s website.
“The Remembrance Scholars bring something exceptional to our University: a commitment to learning, to leading and to giving back,” Vice Chancellor, Provost and Chief Academic Officer Lois Agnew said. “Recognizing them is both a privilege and a point of deep pride for Syracuse University.”
The scholars were chosen to receive the scholarship through a “competitive” selection process.
The selected students represent several colleges across SU, including the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the Falk College of Sport. Fifteen of the 35 future scholars are members of the Renée Crown University Honors Program.
The scholars will also be joined by 10 Lockerbie Fellows for Remembrance Week to honor the Scottish residents killed in the bombing.
