In a campus-wide monthly newsletter, the Syracuse University Office of Financial Aid released a statement about the death of Jaclyn Collins, who began her career at SU in September 2011 as a financial aid counselor.

“Her kindness, warmth and unwavering dedication inspired everyone in our office,” the email read. “We know that through her outstanding work, she changed the lives of countless students, especially her transfer, veteran, ROTC and military students.”

Collins was born in October 1982 in Newark, New York, and graduated from Finger Lake Community College. She also attended Geneseo State University.

Collins died on March 26 from breast cancer, according to an obituary by the Times of Wayne County. Before her death, Collins worked as the assistant director of financial aid for veterans, ROTC and transfer students at the financial aid office.

“She did enjoy her job with her population and colleges and wishes she could have done more,” the obituary read.

Collins enjoyed outdoor activities with her husband, including boating, ATVing and snowmobiling, according to the obituary. She was also the owner of a dog and a flock of chickens.

“Jaki will be greatly missed by all who had the honor and privilege of knowing and working with her” the email read.
