Syracuse defensive lineman David Reese signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent, Aaron Wilson of KRPC 2 Houston reported Saturday night. In one season with the Orange, Reese totaled 29 tackles, deflected three passes and had 2.5 sacks. He’s the sixth SU player in this year’s class to join an NFL team.
Reese’s story is unlike most in college football, as Syracuse was his third team across eight years. Reese spent his first five seasons with Florida before playing two years at Cal.
With the Golden Bears, Reese finally found his footing. In five years with the Gators, he made just 15 tackles but tallied 33 in his first year with Berkeley. In Year 2 with Cal, Reese again produced with 22 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
Reese’s impact was also felt with the Orange. He started every game in 2025, starring with a career-high seven tackles in SU’s season opener against then-No. 24 Tennessee. His injuries at Florida left much to be desired, but his collegiate career ended with a respectable 99 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks.
Reese now looks to make the Chargers’ 53-man roster alongside other former Syracuse players, including Oronde Gadsden II and Marlowe Wax.
