Syracuse defensive back Devin Grant signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent, Aaron Wilson first reported Saturday. Across two seasons at Buffalo and two at SU, Grant made 173 tackles, 15 pass breakups and forced five fumbles. He’s the seventh Orange player to join an NFL team this year.

Grant’s crowning moment at Syracuse is indisputable. Against No. 6 Miami in 2024, Grant stripped the ball from top Hurricanes receiver Xavier Restrepo in the third quarter and housed it for a 56-yard touchdown. The play gave SU its first lead in the back-and-forth affair, which began with the Orange down 21-0. Syracuse went on to defeat Miami 42-38 for its first top-10 win since 2017.

Aside from that play, Grant was a steady presence in SU’s secondary. He appeared in 22 games across his junior and senior seasons, starting 16 contests. He made 85 tackles with the Orange, ranking fourth on SU with 56 in the 2024 season. He was partially injured but still missed just three games at Syracuse.

Before his time with the Orange, Grant spent two years at Buffalo. He earned All-Mid-American Conference First Team honors as a sophomore in 2023, leading the conference and ranking sixth nationally with five interceptions.

An Elmont, New York native, Grant played wide receiver, defensive back and quarterback at Holy Cross High School. He was the second-ranked player in New York in the 2022 class, receiving offers from Buffalo, Fordham, James Madison, UAlbany and Army.

Leading up to the NFL Draft, Grant told Syracuse.com he was in contact with the Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts. He participated in Syracuse’s pro day, and his agent, Gavin Lewis, also received calls from the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears and Las Vegas Raiders, among other teams.

Although Grant was injured for part of his final season with the Orange, his experience in big games can make an instant impact with the Chargers if given the opportunity.
