Ben Lee will join Syracuse’s coaching staff, Sports Illustrated’s Kevin Sweeney first reported Sunday. Lee, 29, spent the last two seasons working under Gerry McNamara at Siena as an assistant coach.

Before joining the Saints’ coaching staff, Lee worked under former SU assistant coach Mike Hopkins at Washington for two seasons. Lee served as the Huskies’ director of basketball operations for the first year before he was promoted to an assistant coach and appointed their director of recruiting.

After spending four years playing point guard for Union College from 2015-19, Lee got his start in coaching as a graduate assistant at Washington during the 2019-20 season. From there, he spent the next three years working for MADE Hoops, a grassroots basketball company, before returning to Washington.

Lee is now the third coach to reportedly join the Orange’s coaching staff under McNamara, alongside Jamal Brunt and Ryan Daly. Last season, SU had three assistant coaches under Adrian Autry, while Pete Corasaniti served as a hybrid assistant coach and director of basketball operations. Meanwhile, Alex Kline was formerly the general manager.

The transfer portal opens on April 7, so there should likely be more clarity on how McNamara fills out the rest of his staff before then.
