Syracuse men’s basketball will reportedly face Indiana in a neutral-site game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Nov. 9, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported Wednesday morning. Rothstein also reported there is no timetable for an official announcement.
The Hoosiers and Orange are both coming off disappointing seasons. Indiana missed the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year, and Syracuse is amid a five-year drought. In his first season in charge, IU’s Darian DeVries guided the Hoosiers to an 18-14 season. Meanwhile, Adrian Autry — who was recently fired — led SU to a 15-17 campaign.
Since Autry’s firing, Syracuse has turned to former player and assistant coach Gerry McNamara as its next head coach. In his second season as Siena’s head coach, McNamara brought the Saints to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.
The Orange have faced Indiana seven times in program history. SU leads the all-time series 6-1, and the teams’ most recent meeting was an instant classic, with Syracuse prevailing 112-110 in double overtime in 2021.
The announcement Wednesday is SU’s second neutral-site nonconference game to be revealed recently. On March 23, Rothstein reported the Orange would take on Providence at TD Garden next season, as well. An official date for that game is yet to be determined.
