Syracuse point guard Luke Fennell became SU’s fifth player to enter the transfer portal, 247Sports reported Tuesday. Fennell, a freshman from Australia, made just eight appearances this season for the Orange.

Fennell logged minutes across the Orange’s first three games, scoring a season-high six points against Drexel on Nov. 15, 2025. But after that, he was largely phased out of the rotation, playing in just five more games. Fennell’s last appearance came on Jan. 27 versus NC State, when he played two minutes.

He finished the season averaging 1.1 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game in limited opportunities. Fennell also had meniscus surgery following the season to fix a partial tear.

The Australian joins forward Tyler Betsey, center Tiefing Diawara, forward Aaron Womack and point guard Naithan George as Syracuse’s entrants into the portal. With players like J.J. Starling and William Kyle III out of eligibility and Nate Kingz seeking an extra year, the Orange only have six players from last season still committed to the team.

So, newly-appointed head coach Gerry McNamara will have a lot of responsibility to rebuild the Orange’s roster over the offseason.

His first addition came Monday, when he added Slovenian wing Mark Morano Mahmutovič, who can help improve Syracuse’s outside shooting. More can be expected in the coming days with the portal having opened Tuesday.
