Slovenian wing Mark Morano Mahmutovič committed to Syracuse, Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress reported Monday morning. The 6-foot-6, 19-year-old is one of Europe’s top prospects, known for his 3-point efficiency and prolific scoring.
Morano Mahmutovič most recently averaged 20.1 points per game in seven games for Slovenia at the 2025 FIBA U18 Eurobasket. He also played two previous summers in FIBA competitions, recording 16.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game across all three. Aside from international play, Morano Mahmutovič has spent time with Cedevita Olimpija and Kansai Helios Domžale in the ABA League, which spans nine countries across Europe.
With Tyler Betsey and Naithan George — two of SU’s top 3-point threats — entering the transfer portal, the Orange severely lack 3-point depth, a weakness they already dealt with last season. SU shot 32.9% from distance, which ranked 17th of 18 Atlantic Coast Conference squads.
However, as Morano Mahmutovič steps in and Gerry McNamara — SU’s all-time 3-point leader — takes over as head coach, the Orange’s 3-point shooting has the potential to improve.
