Syracuse freshman Tiefing Diawara intends to enter the transfer portal, Syracuse.com reported Thursday. The 7-foot center saw the floor in only four contests during the 2025-26 season.
Diawara averaged a mere 0.5 points and 0.8 rebounds in just 2.3 minutes per game. He becomes the Orange’s second player to enter the portal, following freshman forward Aaron Womack Wednesday.
The portal officially opens on Tuesday, April 7.
Diawara arrived at SU after finishing his high school ball at DME Academy at St. John’s Northwestern, a Wisconsin prep school. The Mali native also represented Team Herro, an EYBL circuit squad sponsored by Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro. Prior to arriving in the United States, Diawara played for Italian club Orange1 Basket Bassano for four seasons.
The three-star center chose Syracuse over Baylor and Kansas State, according to 247Sports.
As new Orange head coach Gerry McNamara begins to build his roster and coaching staff after replacing fired head coach Adrian Autry, he’ll look to replenish his center corps with starting big man William Kyle III graduating and Diawara planning to depart.
