Syracuse men’s rowing fell three spots to No. 12 in the Week 4 Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association/Intercollegiate Rowing Association Varsity 8+ Poll, which was released Wednesday. The fall follows a poor showing last weekend at the Lake Morey Invite, where the Orange lost both the Packard Cup and Conlan Cup.
The Orange faced No. 7 Dartmouth, the highest-ranked program in the weekend’s field, in the Packard Cup Saturday morning. SU’s 5:43.90 time was 3.2 seconds short of the Big Green in the varsity 8 regatta, losing the cup for the second consecutive year.
In the afternoon, SU faced then-No. 12 Boston University, crossing the finish line 3.6 seconds behind the Terriers at 5:51.70. The loss marked the Orange’s first time dropping the Conlan Cup since 2019.
Syracuse returned to the water Sunday in Fairlee, Vermont, rebounding with a V8 win over then-No. 19 Georgetown, but it wasn’t enough to bolster its ranking.
SU can regroup before competing against top East Coast crews at the annual EARC Eastern Sprints Regatta at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts, on May 17. The Orange could salvage their season with a strong performance to secure an IRA National Championship Regatta berth.
