No. 9 Syracuse men’s rowing had a mixed showing in its final regular-season races this weekend. It fell short in the Packard Cup against No. 7 Dartmouth and in the Conlan Cup against No. 12 Boston University during the Lake Morey Invite in Fairlee, Vermont. However, the Orange rebounded Sunday with a clean sweep against No. 19 Georgetown.
SU repeated last year’s mistakes in the Packard Cup, losing to the Big Green in the varsity 8 race. Syracuse finished Lake Morey’s course in 5:43.90, 3.2 seconds behind Dartmouth — the highest-ranked program in the weekend’s field.
Syracuse’s other boats didn’t match up with Dartmouth either, losing two of its other three races. In the fourth varsity 8, the race came down to the wire, with the Big Green finishing 0.4 seconds ahead of the Orange in 5:55.10. SU’s third varsity 8 was slightly further off the mark, finishing at 5:49.00, 3.1 seconds behind Dartmouth. The lone silver lining for SU in the morning was its second varsity 8 win, ending 2.2 seconds ahead of the Big Green in 5:42.90.
Saturday afternoon, Syracuse had a solid showing despite losing the V8 race to Boston University, dropping the Conlan Cup for the first time since 2019. The Orange finished the V8 race with a time of 5:51.70 — 3.6 seconds behind the Terriers. But SU prevailed in every other event.
Its 4V8 finished in 6:00.80, 2.7 seconds faster than BU. The Orange’s 3V8 had a convincing, 6.7-second victory, finishing in 5:56.90. Syracuse’s 2V8 sustained its strong form with another commanding win, 6.3 seconds ahead of BU with a time of 5:58.00.
Syracuse concluded the weekend with sweeps across three races against Georgetown Sunday morning. The Orange’s 3V8 finished substantially ahead of the Hoyas, which was followed by another 2V8 victory. To cap off the weekend, SU’s V8 secured a win over Georgetown, completing the sweep and avenging Saturday’s woes.
