Syracuse men’s rowing remained at No. 9 in the Week 2 Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association/Intercollegiate Rowing Association Varsity 8+ Poll, which was released Wednesday.

The Orange’s varsity 8 maintained its ranking despite mixed results last week at the Princeton Invite. The boat finished last in the morning race (6:16.977), trailing the winner — No. 2 Cal — by over eight seconds. SU was also beaten by then-No. 11 Yale and then-No. 5 Brown. Yale was the week’s biggest climber, rising five spots in the poll. But Brown dropped the most, falling three spots.

Syracuse’s varsity 8’s lone bright spot on the day was its head-to-head win over then-No. 10 Penn. After their disappointing morning race, the Orange’s V8 (6:06.365) beat out the Quakers by 3.908 seconds, dropping them one spot in the Week 2 rankings.

On Saturday, the Orange return to action to race No. 13 Cornell and No. 15 Navy in the annual Goes Trophy Race on Cayuga Inlet in Ithaca. Syracuse has dominated the event recently, winning the last five editions of the meet. It also enters Ithaca having won six straight Stagg Trophies, an award given to the team with the most points in the meet’s first three races.
