Syracuse women’s rowing fell from No. 8 to No. 10 in the Pocock Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll, which was released Tuesday.

Surprisingly, the drop comes after an impressive showing in last weekend’s Ivy Invitational in Princeton, particularly against No. 6 Princeton and No. 7 Brown. Syracuse delivered several standout performances, beginning with a second-place finish in the second varsity 8 (7:33.33), just over seven seconds behind Princeton.

The Orange broke through in the third varsity 8, earning a decisive win and finishing well ahead of Princeton, Brown and No. 18 Harvard-Radcliffe. SU tallied another victory in the second varsity 4, continuing its momentum through the morning.

In the afternoon, Syracuse’s varsity 8 (6:55.86) defeated Brown by 4.11 seconds, one of its strongest performances of the regatta. The Orange also again dominated in the third varsity 8, taking first again in 7:19.53 — its second victory in the event that day. Across the regatta, the Orange secured four wins across their 11 racing boats.

Despite that performance, Syracuse dropped two spots in this week’s CRCA poll. Last week, SU sat at No. 8, ahead of then-No. 9 Brown and then-No. 10 California. In the latest rankings, Syracuse fell to No. 10, while Brown moved up two spots to No. 7 and California climbed to No. 9.

Brown’s overall performance last weekend was more dominant. While the Orange earned a key win over the Bears in the varsity 8 and the third varsity 8, Brown finished ahead of SU in several other events, including the second varsity 8 and varsity 4. Those additional head-to-head wins and Brown’s consistency helped it climb from No. 9 to No. 7.

Syracuse will look to regain its standing this weekend at the New York State Championships.
