Syracuse track & field split into two teams Saturday, sending one to the Virginia Challenge and another to UAlbany’s Bobbi Palma Spring Classic. The long-distance racers, in particular, found success in the 1,500-meter run at UVA.

On the Men’s side, Benne Anderson shattered the meet record and clocked a new personal-best to claim the 1,500-meter title at the Virginia Challenge. Crossing the line in 3:37:20 seconds, Anderson logged the third-fastest time nationally to date this season in the event.

In the same event, Drew Zundell came in 10th, finishing in 3:41:75 seconds. Also, Jayden Harberts placed 10th in the 5,000, with a time of 16:40:36 seconds.

At UAlbany, the Orange took first place in three events. Women’s sprinter Indie Wallace-Persaud earned gold in the 200-meter dash, running a personal record of 23.49 seconds. SU’s Sierra Joseph and Nicea Jones followed Wallace-Persaud in second and third, respectively.

In the 400-meter dash, Jones continued to show out. The freshman earned the gold and her second podium finish of the meet after crossing the line in 54.63 seconds.

SU’s final win of the day came in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, when Isaiah Hayes finished in 14.36 seconds. Hayes is coming off a career performance last week when he went sub-14 seconds, notching what was then a top-100 time in the nation.

On the women’s side, Peyton Rollins finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.76 seconds. Her teammate Emeline Clark narrowly missed a top-3 mark, coming in at 13.83 seconds and finishing fourth.

Syracuse is back in action when the squad heads down to the Ithaca College Invitational on Tuesday for its final meet of the month.
