Former Syracuse forward Jasmyn Cooper has transferred to Northwestern, she announced on social media Thursday afternoon. Cooper entered the transfer portal on April 6 and will join former SU teammate Camdyn Nelson on the Wildcats.

In one season with the Orange, Cooper averaged 3.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.6 assists across 24 appearances. She has three years of eligibility remaining.

Upon arriving at SU, Cooper was surrounded by high expectations. She was head coach Felisha Legette-Jack’s top-ranked recruit in her four-year tenure and earned a Massachusetts state title. Cooper eclipsed 1,000 career points across five years at Oliver Ames High School and Noble and Greenough School.

In a four-player freshman class, which included Nelson, Uche Izoje and Justus Fitzgerald, Cooper initially seemed most likely to receive significant playing time. Yet, she played a minimal role behind Izoje and Journey Thompson as Syracuse funneled out a guard-heavy lineup.

Cooper had an encouraging performance in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Quarterfinals, scoring a career-high 11 points against Louisville. She was otherwise limited in her freshman campaign, dropping five-plus points just seven other times.

Cooper joins a Northwestern squad coming off a disappointing 8-21 season. Carla Berube was recently hired as the Wildcats’ next head coach and looks to guide them into Big Ten prominence with newcomers Cooper, Nelson and Kentucky transfer Lexi Blue.
