Syracuse guard Madeline Potts intends to enter the transfer portal, she announced on her personal Instagram account Wednesday evening. Potts is the third SU player to announce their intentions to transfer out, joining guard Sophie Burrows and forward Justus Fitzgerald.

In two seasons with the Orange, Potts averaged 3.2 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. She joined Syracuse in the 2023-24 season after enrolling early but didn’t appear in a game that season. Potts started three games for SU and played in 47 total over the next two years.

Despite showing flashes of being a 3-point threat, Potts only played 10.0 minutes per game across her career. She eclipsed the 10-point mark seven times but was buried on the bench this year behind guards Olivia Schmitt and Angelica Velez.

Potts’ time finally came in the NCAA Tournament, when starting point guard Dominique Darius was ruled out with a season-ending left hand injury. But the Australian’s potential never materialized. She played 17 minutes against Iowa State and 10 versus UConn, combining for two points and five rebounds.

With Burrows and Potts announcing their departures, Laila Phelia out of eligibility and Darius’ waiver for an extra year of eligibility still pending, Syracuse’s backcourt depth appears to be diminishing every day.
