Syracuse women’s lacrosse (12-4, 7-3 Atlantic Coast) fell two spots to No. 6 in the latest Inside Lacrosse poll, released Monday. The dip comes after the Orange lost 7-4 to then-No. 16 Boston College Thursday, snapping their 12-game winning streak.
SU traveled to Chestnut Hill looking to exorcise some demons against the Eagles. The Orange entered the matchup having lost eight straight games against BC, including a horrid 17-2 defeat to the Eagles in 2025. Boston College had been among the best programs in the country over those four years, though, and Thursday’s contest looked to have all the makings of a potential breakthrough for the Orange.
Instead, Syracuse’s attack was stymied by the BC defense, scoring a season-low four goals. The Orange trailed by two at halftime after the Eagles strung together three first-quarter goals, and SU never recovered.
The loss was SU’s first defeat since February, capping a stretch that saw the Orange shoot from No. 14 in the rankings to as high as No. 3. They then dipped to No. 4 in last week’s poll due to Northwestern’s red-hot play. The loss to BC slowed Syracuse’s momentum and led to a two-spot drop in the rankings.
Now, entering the ACC Tournament, the Orange look to solidify their spot in the top eight to secure an NCAA Tournament seed. A loss to Virginia in the opening round Wednesday could put that in jeopardy, although SU’s resume is still among the strongest in the country.
