Four Syracuse women’s lacrosse players were named Inside Lacrosse Midseason All-Americans, announced Wednesday. Izzy Lahah made the second team, while Coco Vandiver, Molly Guzik and Daniella Guyette headlined the third team.
The Orange’s four selections tie Stanford, Michigan and Colorado for the second-most of any Division I team. North Carolina’s six picks lead the nation.
Of Syracuse’s four honorees, no player has had a larger impact this season than Guzik. After scoring just 14 goals in her freshman year, Guzik has exploded for 33 goals through 13 games as a sophomore. She’s also added 10 assists, which ranks second on the Orange, culminating in a team-high 43 points.
While SU’s offense has been sufficient, the Orange’s identity stems from their defense. Lahah and Vandiver spearhead the unit, with Lahah’s 35 causing turnovers leading Syracuse and Vandiver’s 32 coming right behind. Lahah has also scooped up a team-high 34 ground balls.
Vandiver, meanwhile, etched her name in SU’s record books Saturday against Pitt, forcing two turnovers to stand atop the program’s all-time caused turnovers list.
Lastly, head coach Regy Thorpe calls Guyette Syracuse’s “last resort,” and it’s for good reason. Guyette has saved over 50% of the shots she’s faced in five games this year, resulting in a 47.5% total save percentage. That mark ranks second in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while Guyette’s 6.88 goals against average leads it.
It seems Syracuse can do no wrong amid its 10-game winning streak. And as SU looks to extend its momentum into the playoffs, it’ll continue to rely on Guzik, Lahah, Vandiver and Guyette.
