Three Syracuse players were named to the list of 25 finalists for the Women’s Tewaaraton Award, ESPNU announced Thursday during its broadcast of No. 4 SU’s game against No. 16 Boston College. Attack Molly Guzik, defender Coco Vandiver and goalie Daniella Guyette made the cut after the list was roughly halved from the initial Tewaraaton watchlist.

Guzik was a late addition to the Tewaaraton watch list, granted she hadn’t started a game until this season. But once head coach Regy Thorpe handed her the keys to the Orange’s offense and Nicole Levy switched her from midfield to attack, Guzik entered Thursday with a team-high 36 goals, ranking ninth in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Vandiver’s been an anchor for the backline for four years and has carried her Tewaaraton nomination all year. Her 40 caused turnovers sit third in the conference, and she broke SU’s all-time record for the category on March 28. The defender has also scooped up 25 ground balls.

Like Guzik, Guyette entered these conversations later in the season, changing the complexion of her SU career. She’s dipped her goals against average by four from her junior year, ranking third in the country. The goalie earned her second ACC Defensive Player of the Week honor Tuesday after playing hero in SU’s longest game in program history with seven post-third-quarter saves against Notre Dame.

The broadcast also confirmed the Orange are fourth in the NCAA Tournament committee’s top-10 rankings, with the selection show set for May 3.
