Syracuse women’s rowing rose one spot to No. 8 in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Week 5 Poll, which was released Tuesday. The Orange swapped spots with No. 9 Brown from the Week 4 Poll. The last time SU ranked eighth was April 17, 2024.
The jump comes after Syracuse finished second in all six of its races at the Cayuga Cup last weekend. The performance showed SU’s ability to compete with the nation’s top programs, finishing just 4.36 seconds behind No. 3 Yale on average.
Syracuse will travel to Princeton, New Jersey, to compete in the Ivy League Invitational Saturday at Carnegie Lake. The event includes No. 6 Princeton, No. 9 Brown, No. 17 Harvard-Radcliffe and Cornell.
The invitational is one of SU’s toughest midseason challenges. The Orange have already tackled Cornell at the Cayuga Cup, finishing well ahead of it in every race.
“Just trying to get better overall with each week and each race. Trying to keep the process pretty simple and straightforward,” Syracuse head coach Luke McGee said. “We’re going to just keep our minds focused on moving forward.”
Brown and Harvard-Radcliffe remain firmly in the top 25 while Princeton enters as one of the best teams in the country, already defeating Brown on March 28 to claim the Class of 1987 trophy.
