Syracuse University announced it will extend its test optional admissions policy to the fall 2027 and spring 2028 application cycle, according to a Friday release.

SU adopted the test-optional policy in 2021, ensuring students that apply without ACT or SAT scores aren’t penalized, according to the release. Slightly fewer than 2,000 schools across the country remain test optional following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our admissions review has always looked well beyond standardized test scores,” Dean of Admissions Maurice A. Harris wrote in the release. “Our test optional approach enables us to focus more heavily on factors such as academic success, challenging coursework and involvement outside the classroom.”

Additionally, score submissions will not affect student eligibility for merit scholarships offered by the university, the release said.

Students can choose to self-report or submit official test scores. Enrolled students will be required to submit official test scores after self-reporting, according to the release.
