Syracuse University will offer a creator economy minor to students in the fall 2026 semester, according to a Wednesday release. The minor will be the first academic offering from the University’s Center for the Creator Economy, which launched in November.

The minor will include required classes offered in SU’s Newhouse School of Public Communications and the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, as well as electives offered by the Falk College of Sports and the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

The launch of the creator economy minor program comes less than a month after SU announced it would be “sunsetting” 93 degree programs.

The curriculum for the minor will include three required courses: “Introduction to the Creator Economy,” “Business Toolkit for Creators” and “Entrepreneurship,” as well as three electives, according to the release. The curriculum will focus on the different creator economy platforms and important business skills including monetization and marketing.

Acting Chancellor Mike Haynie said SU’s Center for the Creator Economy is committed to preparing students for an expanding economic sector.

“What excites me most about the Center for the Creator Economy and this new minor is that they reflect a deeper commitment from Syracuse University: We’re preparing students for where the economy is going, not where it has been,” Haynie said in the release.

The creator economy sector could be worth nearly $500 billion by 2027, the release said while citing a Goldman Sachs report.

Haynie said he believes SU can prepare students to be at the forefront of the creator economy through academic offerings like the new minor.

“The creator economy is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the world, and Syracuse University is uniquely positioned to prepare students to lead in it,” Haynie said in the release. “This minor brings together two of the country’s premier schools in communications and business to give students the skills, strategy and confidence to build something that lasts.”
