Syracuse will play St. John’s at Madison Square Garden during the 2026-27 season, College Hoops Today’s Jon Rothstein reported Tuesday. It’ll be the Orange’s first game at the famous New York City arena since 2021.
The date of the game is yet to be determined.
The last time SU played at Madison Square Garden was on Dec. 7, 2021, in a 67-53 loss to Villanova during the Jimmy V Classic.
Now, the Orange will likely be the road team against the Red Storm, who host many of their home games at Madison Square Garden. St. John’s was a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and reached the Sweet 16 this past season. After the campaign, head coach Rick Pitino added former SU forward Donnie Freeman to his roster.
In his first season at the helm, Syracuse head coach Gerry McNamara is trying to snap a five-year NCAA Tournament drought and reestablish the Orange as one of the premier college basketball programs. Playing in Madison Square Garden against the reigning Big East Tournament champions could help that case.
