Former Syracuse center Tiefing Diawara has committed to South Florida, The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman reported Wednesday.
Diawara saw limited playing time in his freshman year with the Orange. The Malian only appeared in four games, finishing with 0.5 points and 0.8 rebounds per game. The 7-footer originally committed to SU from DME Academy (Wisconsin).
Now, Diawara heads to a new home with the Bulls. USF is led by first-year head coach Chris Mack, who replaces Bryan Hodgson — a candidate to replace Adrian Autry after Syracuse fired him. Hodgson instead became Providence’s head coach.
Mack has reached nine NCAA Tournaments — eight at Xavier from 2010-18 and one at Louisville in 2019.
USF made March Madness in 2026 for the first time since 2012. It was a No. 11 seed after winning the American Athletic Conference but lost to No. 6 seed Louisville by four points in the first round.
Diawara is the sixth SU player who entered the portal to announce their destination. Naithan George (Pitt), Donnie Freeman (St. John’s), Tyler Betsey (BYU), Luke Fennell (St. Mary’s) and Aaron Womack (UW-Milwaukee) have all chosen their new homes.
