Syracuse attack Joey Spallina was named to the five-player Tewaaraton Award finalist list, ESPNU announced Tuesday night.
The fellow finalists on the men’s side are North Carolina attack Owen Duffy, Cornell attack Willem Firth, Princeton attack Nate Kabiri and Notre Dame defender Shawn Lyght.
Spallina has had a decorated senior season. He set the Orange’s program points record, having logged 75 points (30 goals and 45 assists) during the 2026 season. His 4.69 points per game is tied for the ninth most in Division I. However, Spallina’s repeated sole goal is to win a national championship.
SU begins its path to an NCAA title as the No. 6 seed against Yale Sunday. The Orange have lost three of their last five games, while the Bulldogs are winners of six of their final seven entering the clash.
If Syracuse gets the better of Yale, it’ll likely face No. 3 seed North Carolina in the quarterfinals in Hempstead, New York. On that same field — on Spallina’s native Long Island — he produced an eight-point (four goal, four assist) opus in a 19-18 win against Princeton last season.
The winner of the Tewaaraton Award — given to collegiate lacrosse’s best player — will be announced on May 28 in Washington, D.C. The national champion will be crowned on May 25 in Charlottesville, Virginia.
