Syracuse men’s rowing captured its first Eastern Sprints medal in two years Sunday, highlighted by a bronze-medal finish from its second varsity 8 on Lake Quinsigamond in Massachusetts.

SU finished sixth in the Rowe Cup standings with 24 points, earning bids for three varsity 8s and one varsity four at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship Regatta from May 29-31 in Sacramento, California.

SU’s best crew Sunday was its 2V8, which won its morning semifinal in 5:43.161, finishing ahead of Dartmouth, Cornell, Boston University and Georgetown. In the afternoon grand final, the Orange clocked in at 5:43.210 to claim a bronze medal — the program’s first medal at the event since the varsity 8 took home bronze at the 2023 regatta.

The 12th-ranked Syracuse V8 placed third in its morning Heat 3, with a time of 5:44.812. It advanced to the petite final later, where it finished the race in third — ninth overall — with a time of 5:40.397, behind No. 10 Yale and No. 11 BU.

The Orange’s third and fourth varsity 8s also secured spots in their respective grand finals after top-three finishes in the morning heats. The 3V8 placed fourth overall with a time of 6:07.826, trailing Princeton, Harvard and Brown. The 4V8 completed the course in 6:06.306, enough for fifth.
