Syracuse attack Caroline Trinkaus has entered the transfer portal, Riley Kennedy of Inside Lacrosse reported Tuesday. Trinkaus tallied 63 goals in 39 games across two seasons with the Orange.
Trinkaus is SU’s third loss to the portal this offseason but undoubtedly its largest so far. The attack, who scored 87 points in her first two years with SU, appeared to be a clear cornerstone in what head coach Regy Thorpe was building.
Trinkaus arrived at Syracuse as a top-40 player in the class of 2024, per IL. She switched from midfielder to attack as a freshman, leading to a breakout rookie campaign in the absence of injured star Olivia Adamson. Trinkaus exploded for a near-team-high 32 goals and added 11 assists.
Even with Kayla Treanor’s departure after Trinkaus’ freshman year, she hung around for her sophomore campaign, where she put up nearly identical numbers with Thorpe at the helm. She tallied 31 goals and 13 assists for a career-high 44 points.
The team around her was better, too. The Orange climbed to as high as No. 3 in the IL Poll but met the same fate as the 2025 team, being eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in an overtime stunner against Navy.
Now, Trinkaus will likely look for a new top squad to cement herself as one of the nation’s best goalscorers. And Syracuse will — again — have to find a way to fill some voids up top.
