Syracuse women’s rowing earned three All-Atlantic Coast Conference selections, the ACC announced Saturday. Senior captain Ellie-Kate Hutchinson was named to the All-ACC First Team, while Acorn Cassidy and Katia Ustiuzhanina each earned Second-Team honors.
In her senior season, Hutchinson continued to cement herself as one of the ACC’s best rowers. She primarily raced in SU’s varsity 8 as the six seat, serving as a main leader of the Orange’s top boat.
The honor is a microcosm of Hutchinson’s career success. In addition to her All-ACC First Team selection last year, she was also named to the CRCA Athletes to Watch List earlier this spring, which recognizes the nation’s top rowers.
Cassidy collected the first All-ACC honor of her career after becoming a consistent piece of Syracuse’s varsity 8. Mainly rowing in the four seat, Cassidy helped the Orange record multiple strong regular-season performances against nationally ranked competition, including wins over No. 9 Brown, No. 16 Ohio State and No. 17 Michigan.
After securing a European Rowing Championship gold medal with the Ukrainian National Team and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors at Kansas, Ustiuzhanina made an immediate impact in her first season with the Orange. She was also SU’s representative on the ACC Preseason Watch List.
Although Syracuse finished fourth at the ACC Championship and couldn’t reclaim the conference crown, it remains among the nation’s top programs heading into the NCAA Championships.
