Voting ended for the 2026 primaries across New York state Tuesday, concluding the city of Syracuse’s primary election cycle.

As of Wednesday morning, the Democratic race for member of New York state Assembly District 129 is the only race too close to call.

Maurice “Mo” Brown leads 14-term incumbent William B. Magnarelli by a small margin, with the votes standing at 50.57% and 49.34%, respectively, according to unofficial results from the Onondaga County Board of Elections.

Here’s who won the remaining races and who they will face during the November 3 general election.

New York State Comptroller, Democrat

Incumbent Thomas P. DiNapoli defeated Raj Goyle and Drew Warshaw as the New York State Comptroller candidate. DiNapoli beat Goyle and Warshaw with 72.48% of the vote.

Appointed in 2007, DiNapoli remains a longtime advocate for the middle class, protecting taxpayers and fighting corruption and waste.

“Tonight’s victory is a victory for every single working family in New York State, every public sector worker and first responder who relies on a secure pension, every student and senior who worries about the affordability crisis we’re facing,” DiNapoli said in a Tuesday night release.

DiNapoli will face Republican candidate Joseph Hernandez in November. Hernandez, a local entrepreneur, focuses on policies such as “protecting” taxpayers, holding the government accountable, and investing in New York through “disciplined, market-driven” actions.

Onondaga County Legislator District 8, Democrat

Chad Ryan beat Tammy Honeywell with 57.54% of the vote in their second face-off for this county legislator seat. Honeywell ran against and lost to Ryan in 2025.

Ryan will face the GOP’s Brandon Camperlino in November.

Onondaga County Legislator District 15, Democrat

Jo Bennett defeated Bill Kinne, hoping to hold their first government position in November.
Kinne previously served in the position for 24 years before losing his seat in 2023.

Bennett clinched the seat with 61.12% of the vote.

As a part of the affordability slate, Bennett championed affordable housing, universal childcare and fast, free buses in their campaign.

Bennett will run against GOP candidate and local attorney Woodruff Carroll in the general election. Carroll’s policies center around improved government efficiency, job growth and business development, civil rights and community-first governance.

Onondaga County Legislator District 16, Democrat

Charlene Tarver defeated Nyatwa Bullock, securing 54.45% of the vote. This is the only seat in this election without opposition from a GOP candidate, meaning Tarver is currently running unopposed in November.

Tarver’s campaign focuses on policies such as affordable housing, public safety and economic investment.

Syracuse Common Councilor At-Large, Democrat

Current seat holder Helen Hudson defeated Cjala Surratt and Moise Laub with 53.38% of the vote. Continuing her current work, Hudson hopes to keep strengthening the workforce and developing affordable housing.

Hudson will face GOP candidate and Syracuse attorney Raymond Dague in November.

The general election will take place on November 3.
