Benne Anderson, Jamir Brown and Elijah Mallard, Syracuse’s three participants at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, received Second Team All-American honors, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Friday and Saturday. The honor is given to racers who place between ninth and 16th at the national championships.
“The further you go up the mountain, the higher you look,” Anderson said Friday. “You start thinking, maybe I can win this race, that race and the next, or even be an All-American.”
This is Mallard’s first All-American honors. Brown earned Second Team honors in the 60-meter hurdles during the indoor season. Brown raced in the 110-meter hurdles at the national championships, while Mallard competed in the 400-meter hurdles. Both are SU record holders in their respective events.
Meanwhile, the award marks Anderson’s second time on the Second Team and his third career All-American nod. Anderson made the Second Team for the 1,500-meter, his second honor of such. He was an honorable mention in 2024 and made the Second Team last year in the mile.
The three competitors are SU’s first men’s runners since Jaheem Hayles (First Team) and Kevin Robertson (Second Team) in 2023 to make the Second Team or better for outdoor track.
