Lucy Blu Island Bar & Club, a popular bar on Marshall Street, is undergoing a management change and rebrand, owner Raymond Faigle told The Daily Orange Thursday.
The bar, known among some Syracuse University students as “Blucy’s,” is currently under construction and is changing its name, Faigle said. He hopes to unveil the newly renovated bar sometime between August and September 2026.
Despite the permanent closure rumors that have circulated on social media and YikYak, Faigle, who owns both Orange Crate Brewing Co. and Lucy Blu, confirmed that he still owns both businesses. Moving forward, Faigle will only run Orange Crate, which he’s owned since 1996, after previously managing both.
“It’s just cosmetic renovations and rebranding of the name,” Faigle said. “It’s the same footprint.”
Located on 161 Marshall Street, the bar first opened in 2021. Lucy Blu took over the space when DJ’s on the Hill, a former sports bar, closed in 2020. Since then, the bar has become a well-known spot for social gatherings like date nights, bar crawls and most recently, a venue for student musicians.
Faigle said managing both Orange Crate and Lucy Blu at once was challenging. Pitch Social, an event company started at Rutgers University that renovates college bars, is taking over management of the new bar, Faigle said.
With a “new, energetic, youthful management” team, Faigle plans to use social media to let students share ideas for the bar’s new look. On Thursday, Pitch Social posted a sneak peek into the renovated bar on social media, asking viewers to comment what color the bar should be.
“This is my 30th year as an owner, I’m not going anywhere,” Faigle said. “It was just time for a change, that’s all.”
