Syracuse University appoints Rev. Corey MacPherson as Hendricks Chapel dean

Syracuse University appointed Rev. Corey S. MacPherson as the 8th dean of Hendricks Chapel, Chancellor Mike Haynie announced in a Tuesday release.
MacPherson’s position will be effective Aug. 9, relieving Rebecca Reed Kantrowitz of her role as interim dean after Rev. Brian Konkol’s departure to Valparaiso University. Under Konkol’s leadership, the university saw a 150% increase in student engagement at Hendricks.
“(MacPherson) has spent two decades building trust across different faiths and communities, and he knows how to lead an institution through change,” Haynie said in the release. “I’m confident he’s the right person to lead Hendricks Chapel into its next century.”
MacPherson currently works as the director of the Center for Spiritual and Ethical Development at Pennsylvania State University. Prior to that, MacPherson was the vice president for spiritual development and church relations at Eastern Nazarene College, as well as Colgate University’s university chaplain and Protestant campus minister from 2015 to 2025. He also founded the North Shore Church of the Nazarene in Stony Brook, New York.
Serving as a chaplain with the U.S. Army Reserve’s 403rd Civil Affairs Battalion, MacPherson also earned a Ph.D in leadership studies and a master of arts degree in organizational leadership from Gonzaga University
“Hendricks Chapel means a great deal to this University, and to me personally, and I’m honored to help lead it into its next chapter,” MacPherson said in the release.
