Syracuse University appointed a search committee to fill the role of chief people officer and senior vice president for human resources, according to a Wednesday release.
The committee will consist of two co-chairs, Terence Lau, dean of the College of Law, and Mary Opperman, senior vice president and university secretary, as well as seven committee members.
SU’s CPO will serve as the university’s chief human resources officer and report directly to Chancellor Mike Haynie.
The role carries responsibilities including talent acquisition and development, rewards and compensation strategy, labor and employee relations, organizational development and HR technology and data analytics, according to the release.
The rest of the committee includes:
- Heather Gaines, deputy general counsel
- Allen Groves, senior vice president and chief student experience officer
- Lindsay Hochberg, assistant vice president for information and technology services’ enterprise applications systems department
- Jamie Perry, associate professor of management in the Whitman School of Management
- Andrea Persin, assistant dean of budget and finance and administration in the College of Arts and Sciences
- Pam Socker, director of compensation strategy for human resources
- Mike Venutolo, Board of Trustees member
Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives Mike Fandrich will serve as the committee’s primary point of contact throughout the search.
“Our nearly 7,000 faculty and staff are the foundation of everything Syracuse University does, and this role will help set the strategy that recruits and retains the best people and positions them to do their best work,” Haynie said in the release. “I’m grateful to this committee for taking on this important charge, and I’m confident in their ability to identify an exceptional leader for our community.”
Korn Ferry, an executive search firm with whom SU has worked with in the past, will assist the committee with candidate selection and hiring process.
The committee aims to complete their search and have the next CPO fill the role by Jan. 1, 2027.
