Amarri Monroe reportedly commits to Syracuse after being granted 5th year

Former Quinnipiac forward Amarri Monroe has committed to Syracuse men’s basketball, On3’s Joe Tipton reported Tuesday. The recent preliminary injunction in the class action lawsuit granting high school class of 2022 players a fifth year of eligibility allowed Monroe to transfer to the Orange.
The NCAA has appealed the Colorado judge’s ruling and the eligibility of class of 2022 athletes such as Monroe, who has already played four full Division I seasons.
The 6-foot-7, 220-pound Monroe averaged 15.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game for the Bobcats last season, earning All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference First Team honors. He was the MAAC Player of the Year in 2024-25.
If the Newburgh, New York, native is eligible to play, he’d be a significant addition to the Orange. Monroe would be the seventh transfer portal acquisition for first-year head coach Gerry McNamara, joining former Siena players Tasman Goodrick, Gavin Doty and Francis Folefac, who followed McNamara from the Saints. SU also added former McNeese guard Garwey Dual, former Temple guard Aidan Tobiason and former Appalachian State center Luke Wilson.
