SU to close part of Ostrom Ave. starting Wednesday for dorm construction

Syracuse University’s new residence hall construction at 544 University Place will impact traffic on the 700 block of Ostrom Avenue starting Wednesday, according to a campus-wide email from SU’s vice president and chief campus facilities officer Pete Sala.
The 700 block of Ostrom Avenue, between Euclid Avenue and University Place, will remain closed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays until Oct. 21 and will not affect access to local residences, Sala wrote.
The Office of Campus Planning, Design and Construction plans to provide updates on the project as it continues.
The residence hall at University Place is a part of the ongoing construction of three new residence halls that will begin housing second-year students starting in the fall 2027 semester, according to an SU release.
In total, all three residence halls will collectively hold 1,872 new beds, 4,053 total rooms, 48 study rooms and 77 lounges, according to the release. The residence halls will also include “modern amenities” such as air conditioning, wellness rooms, instrument practice rooms, kitchens and four-and-two-bedroom suites, according to the release.
The Syracuse Common Council also raised the construction project’s road closure fees and building permit costs following a July revision, totaling a combined $1.7 million.
